Since 2015, SmitsRinsma has been involved in collaboration with Sant & Co to diagnose 4 WWII cemeteries commissioned by the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC).
“American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) administers, operates and maintains 26 permanent American military cemeteries and 30 federal memorial, monuments and markers, which are located in 17 foreign countries, the U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the British Dependency of Gibraltar; three of the memorials are located within the United States.”
Our assignment consists of diagnose the cemetery landscapes and the establishment of the planting plans for WWII American cemeteries at Henri-Chapelle, Ardennes, Luxembourg and Margraten as an current status assignment.
In detail the scope of the mission is to diagnose landscape and any element as part of the overall design. Site survey of existing planting, ponds and fountains, roads and pathways, coating and surface, patios, stairways, spotting of statues, furniture and lighting.
Establishment of current planting plans (as well as the botanical inventory of alignment and isolated trees, wood areas, shrubbery, roses, hedges, perennials, landscape/flower beds, fine lawns, meadows).
Update of topographical drawings, including the levels of buildings, terraces, stairways,
section of roads and pathways.
The assignment is still going on and must be completed at the end of 2019.
